Safari Zoo Run 2012

The Safari Zoo Run is my first running event in Singapore though i have been here for 4 years.
Even the Singapore Zoo i hadn't been here for nearly 10 years.

The Singapore Zoo is at the Mandai area. Crematoriums, mangroves and an orchid farm at that road stretch.

yawchu packing his stuff for the run.

cute bib!

We started the journey from my place in JB
It's about 45 mins drive from JB to the Singapore Zoo with clear traffic.
We reached at 0700hrs

prerun pics

The length of the run is around 12km. 2 loops, 6km on each.
The route consist of an overview of some parts of the Night Safari and also the Zoo.

The start of the race was a bit of a downer.
1st category to flag off, is the 12km category.
Mix of female and male together.
There were "waves" during the run. I was on the 2nd wave.
2nd wave is flagged off 5-7 minutes after the 1st wave has started.
We couldn't get into the 1st wave even though there were still plenty of space at the start point.
The staff at the run would not allow us in.
Plenty more space could be made, if the organizers could have utilize the huge space available.
They might be worried about congestion on the route cos the width of the entire route consistently is around 5 to 6 ft.

Horns up..and there we go.

It was fun. Having too much fun, in fact.
Guojian, Yawchu and I, we were making jokes 1st half of the entire stretch.
Laughing and giggling like little kids.
Seems that we didn't really bother much about completing the route as best as we could.
Maybe cos we do know our timing wouldn't be good as we were on the 2nd wave, and results are based on guntime.
Along the route, we'll stop to see animals and making really weird and at times, naughty jokes.
2nd loop, we were running slow, consistently..to enjoy the scenery of the route. It was amazing.
somehow, the Zoo was well maintained and some parts had really good view worthy of Nat Geo picture.

Water stations were good. There are water stations every 3km.
The staff at the Zoo were enthusiastic, some staff were motivating participants to run better.

postrun syndrome. lol

The gifts and medals are REALLY cute!

After the run, we went back to the zoo after a simple brunch..
its part of the race entitlement..free whole day access to the zoo.
Took many pics and etc..

last few pics before we are off to Vivocity

Newton Challenge Run 2012

What a way to start the new year..start with a run.

A first for me and the usual suspects.

Newton Challenge Run 2012 is the 1st running event on Runners Malaysia running event calender.

Around 2000 people participated the event.

Few category available, the 12km & 25km.

Both priced at RM65 or RM130 if you would like to add on a MIO heartrate monitor watch.

Trust me. the watch is really badly made.

you are better off looking at the sun for time than looking at this.

.

Reached around noon at KL, and we went walking around Pavilion, Sungai Wang to wait for Kao Meng's friend to our accommodation place at Puchong.

bear exhibition. 2 bears out of the cage. lol

Our accommodation is at Life Methodist Church, Puchong which is very near to the start area.

Thanks to Kaomeng and Ray for the arrangement.

The church is amazing.

The church members were really nice and helpful.

A countdown service was held at the church.

It was simple, sincere and the sermon was direct.

Really touched and inspired by the pastor.

After the sermon,

Slept at 2am, woke up at 5am.

Bath, breakfast and we travel to the start point together with guys from Kao Meng's running club, TMM  (Team Miracle Mile). Awesome fellas!

(from left to right; Gin Mah's friends, Gin Mah and Ray)

Me, Yawchu and Ah Hao is on the 12km category

Kao Meng is on the 25km category

25km flags off at 0530hrs, 12km is at 0630hrs.

The route starts with a few rolling hills, cutting out to the main road.

Felt a bit of snapping sensation, at back part of the right knee at 4km.

While running, i slightly tapped the thigh and the back of the knee..placebo effect. lol

Suffering on the 4km stretch. the short downhill was a bit of a relieve, reality kicks in when it starts going uphill.

Plenty of drinking stations along the way. But there weren't many route markers.

2012.

It's been awhile since the last update. (since March 2011.. ..lol..)
I guess most of us are on Facebook, Twitter & even Google + less Friendster..

welcome to my blog. AGAIN.
lol

+

year of the dragon.

As part of the many unfulfilled resolution since last year,
cutting weight and a new breath of fitness was on top of the must do's.
and it wasn't rosy.

Losing weight was top priority.
25 years old.
Fat.bloated.easily panting at Ultimate pickups.
I needed to start from somewhere.

I tried going fer gyms.
1st try at the local community center at Jurong Stadium.
All the biceps,triceps whatever ceps..
damn..it feels intimidating.

then i thought, swimming.
Swimming pools even more malu
embarrassing to display that buncit

a bulging stomach ain't an looker..

at then, a very good friend was madly into running.
He encouraged my clicks to start running.

Me wanting to lose weight..started trying running.

i started jogging on one of the running paths at Jurong West.

it was hell.
i was dying for a breath of air every 250mtrs and barely completed 2km.
I was panting..gasping fer air. Cramps all over the thighs, ankles, elbows, neck
even my balls were screaming fer help.

I gave up.
told myself, i think im better off stuck at home watching TV or stick my mouth with Long John Silver every few days like i did fer the last 8-9 months.

thoughts floated across,
and i desperately needed to lose weight..
i remembered what my friend talked about.
His reason to run. and his conviction on running.
That inspired & motivated.

Long story short,
the weight lost has been a tad successful..
though not great,
I've lost a total of 6 kgs since i started running and a reasonable adjustment on the diet since October 2011.

Now, running is not only about losing weight.
I've my own conviction on running.

Running is part of life now.
So much things have changed, and it has changed many of my prospective of my lifestyle

Like Ultimate, running has helped overcome obstacles and also open up new doors to people.
It has been wonderful.

speed of sound.

seems everyone around me is talking about the need for speed.

need to find new jobs urgently.
need to work hard and quick at your place.
need to quickly finish assignments.
need to urgently get married cos i'am 28 now.
need to get new phone.
need to get a new place cos the rental is going up.
need to buy that shoes, cos the shop is closing at the of the month.

even me.
the need for speed is endless.
esp when it comes to work and cars.
hoho..

but what hit me the most among all the "speed issues" that i've seen and heard..

is a friend who recently got hitch.
and on her bloggie..
fast love is what she talks about
and there could be individuals who seems unpleased about it.

what i could first and foremost share..

is.

".. the speed of sound."

a.k.a

".. the speed of the ever-babbling mulut. "

just leave the girl alone,
and let her enjoy her moment and space..

there are more interesting things to talk about.
So much things to talk about..
like flowers..birds...trees..weather...clocks..planes..

anything under the sun.

i'am sure there are better things to talk about.

definitely.

expectations.

it hasn't been well.

the coffee and headache, ain't working well together

amazingly, things don't work out when yew expect it to be,
whereas the things yew least are in control of it, nor expect it happen..
happens in amazing timing and fashion.

the amazing thing unpredictability and the things provided by God..
just amazes.

thanks..for all You have done.

++

reality hurts.

..interviews that do not meet expectations,
in a place where expectations meet, but unhappiness with the people around it..

it gave a good prospective of how reality really works.

+++

same with the people yew care about.

" ..its not what yew expect best fer the person.
Is what the person expect best for him/herself.."

++++

So..
my expectation for myself
is to have a few shots of nice whisky from the collection at home.

savour every moment of life.
recollecting things that i have..and would want to have.

and well-needed..SLEEP!

yeappie!!
